The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) at Washington State University (WSU) is well known for its research into how technology can encourage student-centered learning. The CTLT had been looking for collaboration technologies to integrate into university curriculum so that students can take control of their learning experience and reach beyond the boundaries of the classroom. The CTLT used a series of contests to encourage students to adopt the My Sites feature of the university’s deployment of Microsoft® Office Sharepoint® Server 2007. Students used My Sites to create workspaces, reflect on their learning, and share information with people inside and outside the university. Today, the CTLT is working with WSU faculty to integrate My Site capabilities into courses to improve learning outcomes and provide better services to the students.

  • SharePoint enables the CTLT to continue developing new modes of student-centered learning.
  • Students benefit from using a technology that is common in the world of work they will enter upon graduation.
  • Innovative My Sites created by students further WSU's mission of global outreach by enabling students to collaborate with people outside the university and around the world.
