A number of organizations I have worked with since they are implementing SharePoint for the first time are looking to not roll out the MySite site functionality for phase 1 but looking instead to get in their base site infrastructure and then roll out MySites at a later date. Well when eliminating user access to MySite there are some definite do's and don'ts to follow. The Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies Team Blog has a great posting on this titled "Be wary when removing or replacing the My Site link". From the article "I've seen a recent trend where people are either removing or replacing the My Site link that's at the top of the page.
