Video: Add Any Embed (Flash, Silverlight, iFrames, etc.) To the SharePoint Rich Text Editor

Update: As an FYI, I have also tested this solution in Safari and in Firefox (both on a Windows Client machine) and this worked seamlessly there as well.

I am sooooooooo excited about this one folks. No more copy this and paste this snippet in to this snippet now re-paste, blah blah blah. Boris has again come to the rescue and this post was done using what I show in here. This is a must watch video for those who have wanted to use embed of any kind, not just in SharePoint blog posts, but anywhere that uses the rich text editor control.

Thanks, Mike!

Hi, Mike! Thanks for the great review and for pointing out the little tweak. The way I'm usually using it is to put it in the masterpage gallery of the top level website.

About the Last name - don't worry, even a lot of people in Slovenia don't know how to pronounce it :)

Excellent!

Great video and I love the solution too! Implemented it right away into my blog. I was thinking it should be easier to embed video without the first copy/paste method.
Thanks!

Is this just for blogs?

I want to have this option for all pages. Is this possible?

Help?

I love this.. and it seemed to work.. but it ends up I'm the only one that can see the videos embeded... any ideas why no one else can?

Re: Is this just for blogs?

No, so long as the form being referenced can find the gif file and the java script this should work anywhere that the rich text editor control is referenced. I have used it already with SharePoint wiki pages

Re: Help?

Are you embedding internal videos on to an external facing page? If so since you are within your corporate Intranet you would be able to see them as you have access while for people in the public Internet they would not. Hard for me to tell what the issue is without more information.

Re: Help?

It's an internal page and I've tried embeding internal and external content (just in case) without any luck...  It's a really odd situation, just trying to see if you may have known of something that could have caused this.... All I can think of is maybe something that cares if it's an admin account or not.... although I've asked the other admin and they are also having issues, so that doesn't even make sense... very odd problem that has left me just scratching my head....

Re: Re: Help?

I have tested this out internally as well and I can only think offhand two other reasons then you might be seeing this:
1 - If you have publishing turned on and the page itself has not been fully published then new content would not appear to end users until the page is explicitly published.
2 - Your end users either do not have access/permissions to the embedded content or it is blocked by IT for them (could be via proxy) or they dont have the pre-requisite player installed.

Not working on Publishing site or with CEWP

I have not been able to get this to work on a publishing site or with content editor web parts. Any suggestions?

Re: Not working on Publishing site or with CEWP

I will take a look after todays webcast but I have installed on a publishing site previously. It is designed to work with the rich text editor control. It is not designed for the Content Editor part and not needed there either for embedded as the Cintent Editor Webpart supports embeds already.

Does not work if multiple videos are embedded

This does not work if multiple videos are embedded on the same page.

Re: Does not work if multiple videos are embedded

You are correct in that it only allows one video per Rich Text Editor container. However, as you can see from the home page on my blog where there is a container per posting you can have multiple videos per page.

Cross Browser

Great post and webcast, as usual.

Have found the editor add-on works sweet in IE (as the richtext editor doesn't work in FireFox anyay). But also noticed that it doesn't work in Firefox to view the post, only IE :-(

See here for example:
<a href="http://wss.made4the.net/archive/2009/02/20/how-we-did-wa-com-with-sharepoint-wcm-perth-sharepoint-user-group-february-presentation-web-cast.aspx">http://wss.made4the.net/archive/2009/02/20/how-we-did-wa-com-with-sharepoint-wcm-perth-sharepoint-user-group-february-presentation-web-cast.aspx</a>. Is it something "noddy" I've missed. The .js file is fine and can be located.

Noticed it works in your post!
