3/31/2009This is the fourth content video in my series Maximizing Personal Impact While Increasing Employability. In this Michael on the Go video I discuss how a blog presence provides your base for information dissemination as well as personal/subject branding. I also talk about tips to make your blog a more effective one. While I personally at this time have a SharePoint based blog, the information in today's video is technology agnostic and equally valid for all blogging platforms.

Share this Post: Part II of the Increasing Personal Impact While Maximizing Employability video series. In this video I discuss leveraging social media tools to increase your personal impact both within your organization as well as outside of it. Social Media tools if utilized properly have the potential to help you and your ideas scale well beyond the traditional reach/boundaries of a set organizational role. They can help us cut across organizational hierarchies and and in doing so, when used wisely, improve not only our organization but our own professional standing as well.

Share this Post: 3/24/2009The last few months as the worldwide economy has soured, as fellow techies have looked to increase their own personal impact within a company to help both the organization as well as secure their own employment viability I have gotten hit with lots of questions. Questions around how to use social media tools to increase personal impact and brand? What kinds of skills do I need to be relevant? I am learning SharePoint but can I get certified in it and will it help? What are the online tools I should be using and how can I best leverage them?
Yesterday while heading down to Charlotte I started to pull all these together to create a 7 part video series I am titling “Increasing Personal Impact While Maximizing Employability.” I don’t have any allusions about me being a motivational empowerment speaker or career coach. I am just a fellow technologist who has put together some of the tips and lessons learned I have picked up along the way that I hope will be useful. Social Media tools can be extremely powerful but are not a be all end all. If you are working with SharePoint you are in a good position that you should work actively to solidify.
In today’s introductory video Introduction To Increasing Personal Impact While Maximizing Employability I provide an overview as to what and why I will be covering the following in the series:
- Increasing Personal Impact and Building Your Brand
- Skill-sets for Survival
- Get Online! Leveraging Blogs, Twitter, and Facebook
- Maximum Blogging
- Maximum Facebook
- Maximum Twitter
Finally, this series was recorded… on the Go!

Share this Post: 3/19/2009In this the final of a 4 part Michael on the Go video piece focusing Enterprise Social Computing I discuss the propensity to try and make all of your efforts metric worthy spreadsheet efforts. I often encounter attitudes both within my own company as well as at client sites that if it isn't showing up in a spreadsheet it didn’t happen and is of no value. This would be a mistake when approaching Social Computing to drive client loyalty as well as build brand while delivering value.
You can watch all 4 of my impromptu recordings from yesterday here as well:
