Reminder - SharePoint Weekly Webcast: FAST ESP For SharePoint This Friday!
This session has been cancelled! You can use the log in information to attend a replacement session with me. See Todays Webcast Cancelled Due to Speaker Emergency. Will Have Open Mic With Mikey Webcast As Replacement   for more details.

Just a quick reminder. This Friday’s SharePoint Weekly Webcast is looking to be a must attend. FAST ESP brings the most sophisticated, powerful, Internet search to the enterprise space. With its inclusion as part of SharePoint Enterprise as of a few weeks ago knowing its capabilities and how you can possibly leverage it to drive value and cost savings is a prudent step step (especially if you own SharePoint Enterprise or are looking at it). Block off your calendars for this Friday at 1pm eastern time. You can grab the log information as well as the iCal download here SharePoint Weekly Webcast: FAST ESP For SharePoint

See you Friday!!

Be Sure To Attend Today's Webcast, New BackSeat Video, And Slow Motion Train Wrecks

Whew, I am glad we are on the tail end of the week. Ever have a day that seemed like the culmination of a slow motion train wreck? Well that pretty much sums it up for me. So if you see me around with drool coming from the corner of my mouth, eye twitching, and mumbling incoherently, you’ll know why. smile_cry Ah well today is another day, a fresh start and best of all. TODAY WE RESUME THE SHAREPOINT WEEKLY WEBCAST SERIES!!!! Catch your attention? smile_wink Okay, obnoxious all caps aside today is going to be a very informative session on Microsoft search. Many of you may think you know Microsoft search but trust me…. you don’t. Did you know that we have today five, that’s right I said five, versions of Enterprise search available…. and that’s not counting the new desktop search offering, not counting Exchange/Outlook… there’s a lot to chew on. Did you know that Microsoft offers everything from a fully supported, highly scalable, stand alone search server, that is free AND supports federated search…. all the way up to a search offering that has achieved Gartner’s highest rating and does things that our own SharePoint Search and the appliances from those G guys can only dream of.  So be sure to get your lunch to your desk today, or better yet grab a conference room and some colleagues, log in to the session and learn all about what Microsoft is doing on the search front. The webcast will be at 12 noon eastern and you can find the log-in information here SharePoint Weekly Webcast This Thursday! Microsoft Search Technologies

Also, stay tuned as I will have a new BackSeat Driving episode posted by 830am eastern time that you will want to check out. It will focus on Architecture vs SharePoint Architecture. Delivered by MOSS guru Mark Miller there are also cameos at the end by a couple of characters. So be sure to check it out.

Video: Microsoft Enterprise Search With Matt Fangman, Director Enterprise Search

While up in PA for the SharePoint Unleashed Conference I was lucky to run across Microsoft Search Guru Matt Fangman. Matt is the Director of Enterprise Search here in the US. Being the great guy that he his is agreed to my on the spot request to do an interview where he could talk about and demonstrate what Microsoft is doing in the area of Enterprise search. So we found a dark side room where the noise was minimal and grabbed this video footage. You will be especially interested in some of the demos Matt does on the fly as they against live corporate Internet presences. Nothing like real world examples. smile_regular Hopefully we will be able to get Matt to do a Backseat Driving episode or two as he has a wealth of knowledge in this area that so many orgs are looking at today.

Video: Enterprise Information Discovery With SharePoint

Update: I forgot to attchach a link to the slides used in the presentation so here it is: SharePoint Enterprise Information Discovery (PowerPoint 2007)

The other day I had a remote webcast session as part of a joint multi-account briefing. I was asked to speak/present on Enterprise Information Discovery with SharePoint Search. Search seems to be popping up again as a hot topic of interest so I thought I would go ahead and record the session. Still feeling pretty out of it with whatever I am fighting off (can’t decide if its a bad cold, flu, or something) so its not my most engaging presentation but it is chock full of all sorts of great information. It still amazes me how many people have not been informed about our free search option for use both within, and outside, of an organizations fire walls that competes directly with the paid mini-appliance offerings of others. Check out the video to learn about the full breadth of what is available for search in the world of SharePoint.

I promised that I would also attach some links to related content I mentioned in the presentation so here it is.

Quick repost from a post comment. Thought this one was worth reposting to here. I have been working with Mick and the team from Social Media Enterprise – SMEE around Podcasting Kit for SharePoint and I saw his response to someone inquiring around how to get help in implementing the PKS solution. Since I have heard from a number of people making similar inquiries here is Mick’s response. Additionally, you can find a current listing of Microsoft partner offering assistance with Podcasting Kit for SharePoint here.

From the reply:
