Problem

Added a third front end to the farm today and ever since I’m seeing these errors in the event log, once every minute:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3
Event Category: E-Mail
Event ID: 6872

A critical error occurred while processing the incoming email drop folder. 

The error was value cannot be null

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3
Event Category: Timer
Event ID: 6398

This is only on the 3rd WFE – the other 2 are fine.

 

Solution

I went to:

Central Administration > Operations > Incoming Email Settings

Unchecked Enable sites on this server to receive e-mail? and clicked OK.

Then went back in and checked Enable...? and clicked OK.
