How is school going?

Are you a teacher that uses SharePoint or know one that does? A while back, one of my coworkers wrote a post titled Back to school with SharePoint Server 2007, an introduction to the new Back-to-school pages on Office Online. With school well underway, I wanted to highlight a couple of things to check out.

If you are a teacher or administrator using SharePoint, you are probably helping students use the sites to stay caught up with their homework assignments and monitor their ongoing individual progress. And parents benefit by accessing the SharePoint portals to stay involved in how their kids are faring throughout the year. I can attest to this myself, having just attended my boys’ curriculum nights at their respective schools where teachers showed us how to get to and through the school portal to keep tabs on our kid’s progress.

If you use SharePoint as a teacher in a secondary or higher level education environment, I created a brief demo, Watch this: Using SharePoint to manage your classroom, which provides an overview on how to use the Classroom Management template. You can download the template for free from Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Application Template: Classroom Management. And be sure to take the Education test drive, where you can look at preview sites for ideas on how you can use Office SharePoint Server 2007 for teaching and learning.

Talk to us! We’d love to hear about your experiences using SharePoint in your classrooms.

Impressed

I noted this post a while back and meant to follow up and take a look which I finally did today. Very cool stuff, I really loved how Microsoft did the demonstrations and gave it context. Recommend anyone interested to check this one out.

Sharepoint School

Cris - you asked for schools using Sharepoint.  I have a gallery of such schools at www.the-kraal.com

Although early days, I am wanting to get more schools into theis gallery, together with a contact email for each.  In this way we can provide advice/guidance to others setting out on this road - something we could certainly have done with at my school at the time!

Anyone is welcome to contribute details of their site.  Hopefully it will give some ideas of what others are doing with Sharepoint in their respective schools....
