SharePoint On-Premise

Great project.

I know MS is puching for O365 but many schools just don't want to move in that direction.
Which makes me wish there was a version for on-premise SharePoint deployments.

Great concept but very buggy

I gave the solution a go and found it a very frustrating experience. nearly all attempts at creating a class will fail with no apparent reason. And if you do manage to create one, the class will not stick either, i.e. it will disappear from the interface when you reopen the app. Except, events. they will remain on the home screen. Creating a new class will always fail when it has failed once before. The only solution I have found is to clear all cookies, reboot the computer and try it afresh.

This solution looked so promising. It could have saved hundreds of development hours as a starting point. Now it looks like it will take just as many hours debugging the code and adding proper error handling to it. Shame my computer crashes each and every time I try to run the debugger on this app.

Testing the Learning Companion

The LC is a starter kit, and hence not a full blown application out of the box so this should be taken into account. The documentation in the download package in helpful in calling out the known issues, and what has or has not yet been implemented. A key step is that a supported SharePoint deployment must be set up so the app can create sites accordingly. Not all of the pipes are connected in the sample, but the concepts are there and the underlying code is in most cases there and just needs final tailoring.
