Introducing the Content Search Web Part

Differences with the Search Results

As the Content Search Web Part is only available On-Premise in the Enterprise version, I was wondering if we could find a table that shows the added value against the Search Results Web Part.
So far I noticed that both Web Parts allow to build an easy query and show the results with a Display Template.

I guess my question is, how is this Web Part different from the Search Results Web Part that is available in Foundation and Standard version? Besides the Display Templates of course since we can build these fairly easily now.

Enterprise or standard version?

There seems to be conflicting information about if the content search web part is an enterprise edition feature or if it's also available on sharepoint standard edition. Could you clarify this and also make sure you always mention the licensing requirements whenever you introduce features. Also, please mention any differences between on-premise and the cloud. In this case the web part is not available on office 365.

FAST Search

My question is, We have 15 diffrent sites that we need to crawl and get the data from. So we don't need FAST serach any more?

Answers to licensing

Hi,

I posted the first question but saw the other two and maybe I can help with those.
Here is a nice chart that explains the versions and their features:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj819267.aspx
Content Search is only available in On-Premise Enterprise and not standard.
As for FAST it does not exist anymore in 2013, well it's kind of already there in the new Search 2013 but it is no longer a separate module licensed and sold separately. You just have it.

Licensing

I also aggre that licencing and features are not very well detailed or cpecificly mentionned. I think it's really disapointing the the Content Search WebPart is not available in the Standard version. It's a feature that makes SharePoint stand out as a product and it has many, many application... but it does not warrant the price for Enterprise licences on it's own...sad...

Licensing plus plus

One should learn here how to market the "limitation" (content query across site collections) of one version as a 'Feature' in next version and top of that force customers to upgrade the license type from Standard to Enterprise if at all they are interested in knowing how you have overcome this limitation.

I am confident that building the competent custom component would be cheaper than the license upgrade.

Test

This is a test, Please ignore. I have been having difficulty with the Captcha as it always says that what I type is wrong even when it clearly isn't.

Content Search Web-part on Mobile view

Content Search Web Part does not seem to work  when you get to Mobile View /URL of the same page in 2013 . It says "Some apps, such as Content Search, are not supported in Mobile View . Tapping on title areas can bring up he navigation window "  is this by design?

Indexing lists in app webs

Does Content Search index lists created and populated within apps or does it index only lists created in the host web?

What does the default search control that is present at the top of each page use - Contetn Search or Content Query? It is about the control that is in the top right corner that says "Search this site" and has a dropdown.
