Data View?

What does this mean for data view web parts?
 on 10/11/2012 1:05 AM

So, is there a FrontPage 2013?

So this announcement is that the web page editor that we have been  using will no longer provide visual web page editing functionality and that we will need to go elsewhere (to another vendor?) to find something appropriate.

Do you have a link to a review of web page editors that are known to work correctly with SP 2013?

bad news

So who decided there was no longer a need? I've never heard of an upgrade reducing functionality and flexibility before.
This change is ill conceived IMHO

So disappointed.

Seems like such a massive step backwards for SharePoint.  I'm shocked that at the very least some sort of minimal web designer wasn't included at least.  If not integrated.  But hey, I'm just a guy who used Designer 2010 every other day...so take my opinion only for what it's worth.

Dataview webpart is still easily editable

The dataview webparts and the general webpart functionality is still there. You just have to do the it from the code view. But all the old ribbons and their functionality still works (at least in the preview version), So to me it doesn't really seems to be that big of a step backwards, the designer view was mostly broken (and very slow) anyways in sharepoint 2010, if you pages were not simple.

Data view web part

So the strategy is:
instead of fixing what was broken just remove the broken feature.

Would be really enjoyable working on code view for the data view web part.

I bet who decided this never had the pain to experience what that means....

HTML/Web Editors used with SP2013

We've tested Dreamweaver and MS Expression Web with the Design Manager and creating SP2013 Master Pages and Page Layouts. Any other web editor should work as well since it is just HTML/JS at that point.

Brutal

Gosh I hope you are kidding.

SharePoint has grown so quickly because empowered non-technical information workers and allowed them to get things done and not get mired in IT or other delays.  If decisions like this continue, watch how quickly folks start to look elsewhere.  Consumers/users are finnicky.  SharePoint has grown because it respected and empowered the user, not because it was a best of breed CMS, DMS, etc.

Re: Changes to the Design View in SharePoint Designer 2013

It would be a good idea to show some examples of how it would work to make some conditional page displays using the new method. If it's as easy as you make it sound, that should help folks get over the fear of how things will work in a post Design View world.

Shocking

Shocked to read this.
The Design view feature is an important feature which reduces the time of any customisation drastically, and MS has decided to remove it just beacuse of it breaks ocassaically.

I would say, re-think beacuse of it's demand.
