MS did provide this shortcut for you. If you customise your QuickLaunch toolbar in Word, look under all commands, you'll find and entry that reads "Send to Blog" - add this to your toolbar.
Clicking this button creates a new blog post. Better still, if you have an existing document open, it'll copy it all across into your new blog post ready to go.
