SharePoint Online: Service Update

Comments

Any mention of these details this weekend?

These would be great details to share at the inaugural Office365 Saturday event being held in Redmond on 2/25 (#0365redmond).

For those who aren't aware of this event, you can register for this FREE event on Microsoft campus at http://o365redmond.eventbrite.com

PDF

Are the browser file handling changes limited to PDF files or will also apply to other file types?

Re: SharePoint Online: Service Update

The browser file type handling experience has only been adjusted for PDFs. Other file types will open as they did prior to this service update.

Sharepoint Wish list

I was hoping to submit this in Connect.Microsoft.com but did not see SharePoint area there.
It may be too late for SharePoint 2013 but maybe someone will adopt something sometime.
SharePoint wish List
1. Give us more meaningful error messages with some clues!  (too many examples) Don’t tell me to ask the administrator please!
2. Make the CU names consistent with the dates. Same for the files of the CU
a. Enough figuring out which CU from the version, KB number etc…
b. We should be able to see, in the central admin pages, each component and its latest CU version right away. And the top should show the latest over all.
3. When configuring service applications, we are asked to give names to application pools. But if you look in IIS manager, at the application pools list, only the web applications’ application pools are showing the names you gave them. All the pools made for service applications, show names like “8a06e84f831f42bb85aa823f2b92ef9a” you might be able to figure out what it serves by “View Applications” but why not name it the name you asked us to give?
4. Create an easy interface to custom code. Here are some examples:
a. Filter lists with a custom function: let us write code that takes list fields as parameters and returns a Boolean. The filter will either show or not based on the provided function. To achieve this functionality today, we need to create a special web page and make sure our users use it rather than the OOB list’s page.
b. Set audience with custom code based on the logon user. Calculated groups (with custom code) will be nice too.
c. Calculated field based on custom code.

Adobe vs. Foxit Reader

You mention specifically the Adobe Reader. Will this update somehow NOT work if you are using Foxit Reader? The Adobe Reader is bloated and slow.

PDF's still do not work on website

I've tried all of the suggestions/solutions presented and I still cannot get our public website to display PDFs - I tried Josh's solution (works within Sharepoint only), I've got the latest Adobe version, and I've tried standing on my head (well, maybe not the last one.)

We will scrap this and go with a more tried and true solution if we cannot resolve this issue.  Why can't PDF documents stored in the website DOCUMENTS folder work like they should?
